Measured a UI delay instead of guessing at it — and the answer was nobody's fault
A short pause between finishing dictation and reaching the confirmation screen had three plausible explanations, and they all produced the same visible symptom, so no amount of looking could tell them apart. Rather than pick one and hope, we shipped a small diagnostic that timestamps each step of the handoff. It ruled out two theories outright and showed our own code responds instantly — the wait happens inside the system's speech processing, before our app is handed the words at all. That result also cancelled a pre-agreed adjustment that, applied to the raw numbers, would have disabled a button for sixteen seconds after every use. Knowing where the time actually goes turned an open argument into a scoped piece of future work.
